Tiffani Higgins is a CPA and mom of 5 and former bookkeeping business owner. We're often asked if The Stay-at-Home Bookkeeper Academy is accredited.

Technically the answer is 'no,' but here's why. Accreditation is a form of credentialing that applies to schools. Accreditation addresses issues such as teacher:student ratios, number of computers in the media center, number of teachers holding advanced degrees, curriculum used, and so on. Because The Stay-at-Home Bookkeeper Academy is a live coaching program with DIY coursework and not a school, accreditation does not apply to us. However, the coursework and coaching services offered by The Stay-at-Home Bookkeeper Academy is used to change the lives, financially and overall quality of life, for all our students. You can rest assured that it is worth it's weight in gold.

This is Not a Scam!

“Stay at home moms can’t make decent money.”

“The only work from home jobs available are pyramid schemes and mlms.”

“I’d love to stay home, but I am NOT opening a daycare.”

“I don’t have the skill set I need to make money from home.

There’s no way I could bring home full-time pay without leaving the house.”

“Sure, it worked for her, but I wouldn’t find enough work-load to make it worth the effort.”

Why is it easier to think that this is a scam?

Honestly, I’m looking around at some of the moms I know thinking, “Girl, do you remember how you got to the SAHM job you’re in now?” Maybe you left the corporate world when you decided to start a family. Maybe you cringed as your size 6 went to a size Maternity XL and your standards for date night went from P.F. Changs and a movie in your little black dress to Hong Kong Express and a redbox in your favorite pajamas. It was a bit of a sacrifice, right?

Maybe you shelled out thousands of dollars or fund-raised to adopt a tiny human to usher into adult-hood. And you’re grateful. You know this is what you were meant to do.

Or maybe you’re still in the corporate world, wishing you could have a family but not wanting to give up something that’s really fulfilling or lucrative (and not a scam) right now.

Didn’t you wonder sometimes if taking the next step would be worth it? Didn’t you wonder if it would be too hard or confusing? How could you be sure you were really qualified to do the job?

Let me tell you something… you’ve already done amazing things. Parents are resilient creatures. You have the uncanny ability to love a chocolate-covered miniature version of yourself who criticizes your cooking in one moment and demands more of that “special homemade snack” in the next. I’m sure you have also done some undignified things for your child, things no respectable business-minded person would want to admit to… like carrying your kid’s forgotten lunch into school when you’re looking a little underdressed.

I get it. It’s hard to think that there’s someone out there who sees the reality of your day-to-day drama AND has a valid solution for the financial stresses of your current job.

But I do. I’ve been there and I know that this is a legitimate and doable option that will make you feel a little more dignified, if not more fulfilled. And I’ve seen it work for other people just like you.

Let me address some of your concerns…

1. I’m not qualified.

Let me ask you, where did you get your parenting credentials? That would be from the school of LIFE EXPERIENCE. I want you to look in the mirror and remind yourself that you potty trained a human with no previous skill set to do so. Maybe you reached out to some parenting communities for advice, but you were the one staring down the big potty several hours every day to make it happen.

One of the best ways to learn bookkeeping is through training and experience with guidance from a professional bookkeeper and with a community of colleagues who are looking for answers to the same bookkeeping questions.

2. I shouldn’t have to spend money to get a job.

You could see if McDonald’s is hiring. But, in all seriousness, what job worth having doesn’t require some kind of investment? I’m willing to bet the majority of us have some unpaid student loans for jobs we decided weren’t worth our time or didn’t work with the big picture of our lives. This investment is small compared to the bank you’ll be making when you get your first few clients. Plus, it’s a job you’ll love doing because it gives you a sense of independence, allows you to be your own boss, and you won’t have to sacrifice time with your kids to do it. The $75-$100/hr you’ll make ain’t bad either.

3. Maybe it worked for her, but eventually all those jobs will run out, and I won’t be able to find clients.

Sorry, but that’s like saying, “One day, kids will just be able to raise themselves, and we won’t need parents anymore.” 😏

Small businesses will ALWAYS need bookkeepers to help keep track of their finances. No one wants to pay big bucks to an accountant to do data entry that a bookkeeper could be doing for substantially less money, again $75-100/hr. And many small business owners would prefer to promote and develop their business rather than spend hours of their precious time keeping track of all their transactions through QuickBooks. That’s where you come in.

If you’re still thinking this is not a legitimate option, then do the next thing that requires the least amount of commitment. It will take you about the same level of effort as stalking the Instagram of your love/hate SAHM friend who’s doing everything right.

Join the free Facebook group! Take a few days or a few weeks and listen to people’s stories. See if anyone is having success. Ask questions in the FB Lives. Maybe you’ll find out that you’re ready to make the leap because YOU CAN DO THIS. You are soooo capable. You’ve proven it already. Give yourself a chance to dive in and explore the possibility of being an awesome stay-at-home parent WITH a flexible, well-paying side business. I am cheering you on!
